Heinrich Lanz Award for Translational Research in Medicine:

Honouring pioneering scientific contributions to medical care

The Heinrich Lanz Award for Translational Research in Medicine is presented annually in different medical fields for exceptional research work.

The prize, which is endowed with €100,000, honours internationally renowned medical professionals who have made a special contribution to linking findings from basic research with clinical applications.

In 2025, the Heinrich Lanz Foundation will present the first Heinrich Lanz Award for Translational Research in the field of psychiatry. The award ceremony will take place on 5 June 2025, as part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Central Institute of Mental Health (ZI) in Mannheim.

This year, the Heinrich Lanz Award for Translational Research in Psychiatry goes to Professor Dr Daniel R. Weinberger, an internationally renowned researcher who has made a significant contribution to combining basic research with clinical application in the field of mental health.

About the Heinrich-Lanz-Foundation

After Heinrich Lanz created an international company with agricultural machinery factories in the second half of the 19th century, he and his wife Julia Lanz dedicated themselves to serving the community. Following his death in 1905, Julia Lanz established the Heinrich Lanz Hospital Foundation in 1906 as a family foundation for the construction of the Heinrich Lanz Hospital at the Lindenhof in Mannheim. In 1916, this became the ‘Heinrich Lanz Krankenhaus-Stiftung ö.R.’, the origin of today's Heinrich Lanz Foundation.

The foundation continues the Lanz family's tradition of having a positive and lasting impact on society, both as industrialists and through their social work. The foundation's work aims to address social challenges and enable sustainable improvements, particularly in health and science.

Supporting innovative projects and professionals in the medical, scientific and healthcare sectors, should make a significant contribution to this.
